Vallo di Diano, the two-wheeled paths

Activity

Fifteen stages for a journey of six hundred kilometers, one of the most immersive experiences possible in the full nature of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni national park.

To be traveled strictly by bicycle, the Via Silente is an itinerary created in 2014 by the cycle-traveler Simona Ridolfi who created an easy map to follow (also) independently and created a network of affiliated places between hotels, restaurants and places to visit that give the journey a happy connection of principle, leaving equally space for the enjoyment in freedom and the surprise effect.

The departure is from Castelnuovo Cilento, looking towards Pollica: almost forty kilometers to travel, for the first day. The village of Castelnuovo has among its beauties, the pebble coverings by the eccentric artist Guerino Galzerano that enrich the town in several places and the castle with a view of the Alento valley. Suggested stops include the workshop of the basket maker Giuseppe Giuliano in Omignano, the literary café of Galdo Cilento wanted by the late "fisherman mayor" Angelo Vassallo and Pollica, a town embellished by the beautiful sea.

The next day we continue towards Vatolla, for fifty kilometers of stretch to cover. The common thread: the sea. We go towards the coast and the pine forests, between terraces of olive groves, Poplars for a visit to the Museum of the Sea and Agnone and Ogliastro Marina, but also the forest of Aleppo pines, the beautiful Punta Licosa and, uphill, Castellabate. Finally Vatolla with its Vico museum with relics and books by Giambattista Vico.

The next day here is Cicerale, but not before having crossed the oasis of the Alento river and observed interesting species of birds. Still on the road, it is the turn of the "terrace of Cilento": Trentinara, bent so for the surprising view it offers of the Sele valley: truly breathtaking. From the historic center of Stio, you pass along the banks of the Calore river to enjoy a swim and eat fusilli from Felitto.

Fifth stop, Petina and the Castelcivita Caves. Then you have to go over an altitude of one thousand two hundred meters on the Alburni for the Resta astronomical observatory, the ancient sculpture of the warrior "Antece", the cave of San Michele Arcangelo and Sant'Angelo a Fasanella and the ghost town of old Roscigno, where the advice is to sleep at the foot of the abandoned church.

The next day, after having entered the wild Selva del Corticato, the goal is the so-called "town of churches", that is, Teggiano. And the nearby Certosa di San Lorenzo a Padula up to Sanza, the starting point for the complex climb of Monte Cervati towards the sanctuary of the Madonna della Neve.

Not an itinerary for everyone, for the less trained it is better to skip to the next stop, which would be Casaletto Spartano, and fully enjoy the unmissable intermediate stops: Morigerati, the WWF oasis of the Bussento Caves and the waterfall of the "caps of Venus" on the Rio Casaletto.

It is then the turn of San Giovanni a Piro, landing after a day admiring the Gulf of Pollastro, the Cenobio of San Giovanni Battista, the Sanctuary of Pietrasanta, the top of Mount Bulgheria, the beach of Marcellino.

The twelfth stage is all about the sea, from Marina di Camerota to Palinuro. And also inevitably Pisciotta to push on to Ceraso with its "mpieri Ceraso" district, where the houses are built one on top of the other for better resistance in the event of seismic events.

Almost at the end, towards the top of Mount Gelbison, from Novi Velia we head towards the sanctuary of the Madonna del Monte Sacro and its belvedere. Finally from Novi to Cannalonga, from Moio della Civitella to Pellagre with the Museum of Rural Civilization of Cilento and the murals of Piano Vetrale, with the hamlet of Orria which is a true open-air museum of street art. And again, the Piana dell'Alleato and the conclusion of the tour to close the circle. Castelnuovo Cilento.

Who we are

The Residence is located in Caprioli, in the heart of the Cilento National Park, surrounded by centuries-old olive trees, just four minutes by car from the sea. It is the ideal place for those who want to relax in nature and a few steps from the sea.
